Overview
At Downe Primary School, wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that a happy and healthy child is best placed to achieve their full potential, both academically and personally. Our school fosters an inclusive and nurturing environment where children feel safe, valued, and heard. Through positive relationships, mutual respect, and a strong sense of community, we ensure every child has the confidence to explore, learn, and grow. By prioritising emotional, physical, and social wellbeing, we aim to build resilient learners who are equipped to thrive in school and beyond.
Wellbeing is fully embedded across our curriculum, ensuring that it is not just an add-on but an integral part of the learning experience. Through subjects such as PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic education), physical education, and creative activities, we teach children the skills to manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, and develop self-confidence. Our curriculum also includes mindfulness practices, opportunities for self-reflection, and strategies for stress management. This holistic approach helps children to develop a balanced mindset and positive habits that support both their academic learning and personal development.
We offer a range of support systems to ensure the wellbeing of every child and family in our school community. Our dedicated staff are trained to identify and support children who may be facing challenges, offering a compassionate and proactive approach. We provide access to pastoral care, one-to-one support, and small group interventions that address specific needs, such as building self-esteem or managing anxiety. Our school works closely with families, external agencies, and mental health professionals to create a collaborative support network. At Downe Primary, we are committed to ensuring that no child feels alone, and every child has the tools to flourish in a supportive, caring environment.
